The CIAC Building, located in Middlesbrough, required a detailed survey as part of a project to add cladding to its external walls. Our client sought a comprehensive understanding of the building’s current condition to inform the cladding installation process.
We conducted two survey methods:
- Drone Oblique Survey – This method provided aerial imagery and data from various angles, allowing for a thorough visual inspection of the building’s exterior without the need for personnel to access the roof directly.
- Laser Point Cloud Survey – This high-detail laser scanning technique captured the building’s precise dimensions and current state, enabling the identification of any existing damage and ensuring accurate planning for the cladding work.
Our client’s primary goal was to obtain accurate, up-to-date information about the building’s structure and condition. This data would be used to plan the cladding installation efficiently and safely.

How Did Our Client Benefit From a SolidPoint Survey?
The chosen survey methods offered several key advantages to the client:
1. The drone survey was cost-effective, quick, and eliminated the need for surveyors to physically access potentially hazardous roof areas.
2. The laser survey provided highly detailed and accurate data, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of the building’s current form and any existing damage.
3. The combination of these methods ensured a complete and reliable dataset for the client’s planning and decision-making.
What Our Client Received:
For the overall cost of £7,000 and 8 hours on site, our client received detailed survey reports and models, supporting the successful planning and execution of the cladding project.
The use of modern survey technology minimised risk, reduced costs, and delivered high-quality results in a short timeframe.
