In March 2025, SolidPoint carried out a drone and measured building survey as part of a collaboration with Framework Housing Association.
Through Nottingham Trent University, our degree apprentice surveyors were invited to do a site visit at Val Roberts House. There, they met more of the Framework team and discussed which parts of the property had already been surveyed.
They explained that although they had internal floorplans, they did not have any external plans showing each elevation of the building. This was proving inefficient for ongoing maintenance and any future development they were considering.
During the initial site visits, our surveyors met Scotty, one of the team members at Framework, who explained more about the charity and the incredible work they do across local communities.
Framework Housing Association supports people with housing, healthcare and employment across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Sheffield.

As a charity, Framework has limited funds to spend on themselves, choosing instead to prioritise the people they support every day.
After spending time on site and having several conversations with Scotty, it became clear how impactful their work is. We wanted to help in any way we could, so we decided to produce the external drawings they needed free of charge.
The Scope
The scope of the project focused on capturing accurate, up-to-date information of the building’s exterior and roof structures. This included all external façades, architectural details, and the full roof layout, which was particularly important for the charity as they needed reliable documentation to support any future decisions.
Our goal was to provide a clear and comprehensive record of the building condition without causing disruption to their day-to-day activities.
Approach
To achieve this, we carried out a measured building survey as well as a detailed drone survey to capture the roof and upper-level features safely and efficiently. Using high-resolution photogrammetry, we collected precise aerial imagery that allowed us to generate a highly accurate 3D model and elevation data.
This method ensured we could capture areas that were difficult or unsafe to access by traditional means, while still delivering the level of accuracy required for architectural and planning purposes.
The drone data was complemented by measured building surveying techniques on the ground, giving the charity a complete, joined-up dataset for their project team.
