What Is a Topographical Survey?
A topographical survey, sometimes called a land survey, provides an accurate representation of natural and man-made features within a specified area. These surveys are undertaken using precision equipment and the latest technology.
Why Are Topographical Surveys Important?
If you’re looking to develop your land, then an accurate survey of the levels and features is essential.
Without reliable measured information, it can be easy for mistakes to occur, leading to wasted time on site for contractors, planning application delays, and potential limitations in your construction plans.
Investing in an accurate and well-detailed survey will prove to be a valuable investment, saving you significant time and costs while ensuring the success of your project.
How Much do Topographical Surveys Cost?
Typically, the cost for a survey in and around Manchester can be as low as £695 + VAT for a small sized plot. This price will of course increase dependant on distance, size and the level of detail required to record what you need.
The Scope
Our client requested a topographical survey around their Manchester pub, as well as for the field leading onto their property, for any potential future renovations, extensions or refurbishments to their land. They also requested that we survey the brief exterior of the land which just consisted of a pavement and a main road.
During the completion of this survey, we came across a few difficulties, the main one being vehicles driving on the roads, which meant that our total station lost sight of the 360-degree prism, which kept temporarily putting our survey to a halt.
What We Recorded
Our team were on site for 2 days, and recorded:
- Buildings
- Walls
- Kerbs
- Surface changes
- Stairs
- Manhole covers
- Trees
- Roads
Here you can see the final CAD drawing. You can see the precision and detail of our surveys especially in smaller, dense areas like around the building itself:
