GPR / PAS 128 Utility Surveys

Offers detailed, accurate mapping of underground utilities, crucial for efficient planning and preventing damages in construction and excavation projects.

Written by J. Jackson | Published: 17th April 2025

We recently carried out a successful utility survey on Bassendale Road, Bromborough, providing our client with crucial insights ahead of their planned site extension.

The primary reason for commissioning the survey was to identify the underground services present within the proposed development area.

This information was essential for securing planning permission and ensuring that any future excavation work could proceed safely and efficiently.

Our team was on-site for approximately 4 hours, during which we used specialist equipment to detect and map the location of various underground utilities.

The final deliverables included detailed reports and models, along with site photos and progress screenshots.

What Is a SERVICE

A utility survey provides information on buried services on your site. They are essential because they help prevent any hits on utilities when performing excavation on site or help to identify where services run to avoid interference when planning.

These surveys are completed using the latest Electromagnetic Locators (EML), Ground Penetrating Rader Units (GPR) and lifting inspection covers.

We provide existing drawings to show where metal pipes, plastic pipes, electricity cables, drainage systems and telecommunications run as well as do borehole clearances and CCTV pipe inspections.

How Did Our Client Benefit From a SolidPoint Utility Survey?

Choosing a Utility Survey before starting a project holds many benefits, however, there are 3 that stand out the most:

Informed Planning and Design

With a full map of underground utilities, the client could make well-informed decisions during the planning phase.

Knowing exactly where gas lines, water pipes, and electrical cables run allowed architects and engineers to adapt their designs accordingly, avoiding unnecessary delays or redesigns down the line.

Safer Excavation Works

One of the biggest risks during groundwork is unintentionally striking a buried service. This can lead to serious injury, project delays, and expensive repairs.

With the survey in hand, the client had a clear indication of where they could and couldn’t dig, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Time and Cost Efficiency

By identifying service locations upfront, the client avoided the risk of unforeseen disruptions.

This proactive approach saved both time and money, allowing for smoother scheduling and more predictable budgeting.
