Drone & Measured Building Surveys to Aid a Cladding Remediation Project

Aerial Drone Surveys
If you need a large area of land surveying rapidly, or struggle to access it. Then an Aerial Drone Survey is your best option.
Measured Building Surveys
If you are planning a refurb, extension or just simply re-jigging the space you have, then you’ll need an accurate and reliable measured building survey to help you plan.
At Gatehaus in Bradford, the client required a clear and accurate understanding of the building’s external condition to support planned cladding replacement works for fire safety improvements.
To achieve this, they commissioned a measured building survey alongside a drone survey to capture both detailed geometry and hard-to-reach areas of the structure.
The primary goal was to obtain reliable information on the existing façade and roof, ensuring the design team could confidently plan fireproofing works and accurately position new cladding elements, including around windows and key structural features.
Our Approach
We combined a measured building survey with drone data capture to deliver a complete picture of the building’s external envelope. The measured survey provided precise dimensions and controlled data, while the drone survey allowed us to safely and efficiently capture high level areas that would otherwise be difficult or costly to access.
This approach ensured that all relevant areas of the building were documented in detail, including the roof and upper cladding, without the need for scaffolding or intrusive access methods. The full survey was completed within one day, providing a fast turnaround for the client.
How Did Our Client Benefit From a SolidPoint Survey?
Accurate and reliable data for design and planning
The measured building survey delivered precise external dimensions and controlled levels, ensuring that all data could be confidently used for setting out and design.
This reduced the risk of errors and ensured that fireproofing and cladding plans could be developed on a solid foundation.
Safe and efficient access to hard to reach areas
Using drone technology, we were able to capture detailed imagery of the roof and upper sections of the building without the need for scaffolding or specialist access equipment.
This not only improved safety but also significantly reduced time and cost.
Clear understanding of existing conditions
The combined dataset provided both accurate measurements and high quality visual documentation.
This allowed the client to assess the current condition of the external façade and cladding, identify any issues, and make informed decisions moving forward.
Why Choose SolidPoint?
By integrating drone data with point cloud and measured survey outputs, the client and design team were able to work from a complete and coordinated dataset and therefore improving overall project efficiency, as there was no need for repeated site visits or manual measurements, reducing delays and the risk of inconsistencies.
The ability to clearly locate windows and key features also supported precise planning of fireproofing works, ensuring compliance and accuracy throughout the design process.
